A FRIEND IN NEED IS A FRIEND INDEED

by Nana Osei-Bonsu

What is a friend? A friend is a person attached to another by affection or regard. There are two categories of friends, namely a bad friend and a good friend. A bad friend can be a bad influence in your life and can lead you astray when you least expect it. A good friend is more like a brother or a sister to you. They are like a guardian angel in your life and are always willing and able to go the extra mile to help in order for you to be happy or make your aspirations come into being.

Joe Forson is the name of my best friend. He has been there for me through thick and thin. He is a prefect gentleman, a trustworthy-person, a God-fearing man, and above all a positive thinking person. My association with him has changed a lot of negative things in my life into positives. His unselfishness and open mindedness has affected my life beyond expression and I thank God for Joe’s presence in my life.

Joe always tells me about the importance of education. By doing so he helped me to go back to school and pursue a course that will either shape my life or help me in the future. Joe tells me to be law abiding so that I will not tarnish my hard earned reputation.

One of the numerous favors or kindnesses of Joe Forson that has left an indelible imprint in my heart was when I was in dire need of money. I sought the help of my brothers, sisters, and also some other family members, but to my utter surprise none of them was able to help me at that difficult time in my life. I consulted my friend Joe Forson about my predicament and he gave me more than I asked for to help me out of that situation. He also asked me if there was anything besides financial help that he could do for me.

I said to Joe Forson that what he had done for me was more than enough. In my estimation this is what friends are supposed to do. Joe’s kindness to me at a difficult time in my life had given me a true and deeper meaning of friendship. So I heave a sigh of relief and say to myself, a friend in need is a friend indeed.
